Maddie & Tae’s final recorded song together arrived on Friday (April 3).

Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr released their own version of “You’ll Be in My Heart,” a classic ballad from the Tarzan soundtrack, as they close a chapter in their careers. The two artists, both 30, confirmed in December 2025 that they’re splitting up as a duo after 15 years together; however, the two artists clarified to PEOPLE at the time that it’s not a “breakup.” The pair will remain close friends as Font continues to release music solo, and Kerr, a mother of two, focuses on her family.

The duo’s rendition of “You’ll Be in My Heart,” written and performed by Phil Collins, appears on Main Street Country, a 5-track EP featuring modern country twists on classic Disney songs. Other artists appearing on the project include Kane Brown and his wife, Katelyn Brown (“Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty and the Beast), Restless Road (“The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie), Dasha (“She’s So Gone” from Lemonade Mouth), and BRELAND (“Go the Distance” from Hercules). The country installment of the music series follows A Whole New Sound, a successful collection of pop-punk renditions that arrived in September 2024.

Catching up with iHeartCountry on Thursday (April 2), Kerr said blending country into beloved Disney music “was always meant to happen.” She pointed out, “we’re all about the storytelling, staying authentic, and if we can make somebody feel something with our music, then we’ve done our jobs.”

Her friend and longtime duo partner, Font, said the recording process “was super emotional, especially with what we were going through in our personal lives.” The two artists were nearing the decision to “transition to a new chapter of our lives,” when they were working on their version of “You’ll Be in My Heart” (though, she noted, they remained focused on the “very hard song to sing”). “There’s just so many beautiful but bittersweet things going on in our lives right now. …It feels like we’re kind of putting a title on a diary page with this song in our career, and it’s very, very special and sweet.

“It was kind of diabolical to pick this song in the middle of what we’re going through, but awesome at the same time. Very empowering still,” she added, confirming, “this will be our last release as a duo.”

Kerr added, “this will be our last recorded release of Maddie & Tae for the foreseeable future, so definitely a special one. And I think the irony about it is we didn’t know. This decision [to end a chapter as a duo] hadn’t [officially] been made when we picked the song, so it kind of just felt like God was putting the steps in the right place, to let us know we weren’t going to be alone.”

Font and Kerr met through their vocal coach in 2010. They released their self-titled EP — which included their breakout single, “Girl in a Country Song” — in 2014, and followed with their debut album the following year. Maddie & Tae have since become known for Die From A Broken Heart,” “Heart They Didn’t Break” and more. They’ve also started families during that time. Maddie and her husband, Jonah Font, welcomed son Forrest Henry Font in September 2023. Kerr and husband Josh Kerr are parents to daughter Leighton Grace Kerr, born in January 2022, and son Chapel Shields Kerr, born in October 2024. Font said, “my baby is obsessed with the whole [Tarzan] soundtrack.”

“I want my baby to just know that he can do anything he sets his mind to, and I want to be living proof of that and you just need a lot of faith and resilience and a great support system, and he's got that,” Font shared. “So, I just want him to chase every freaking dream on his heart down with 110%.”

“Yes, and have fun,” Kerr added, “and be you, and enjoy the journey. Soak it in.”
