Dan + Shay stirred anticipation for the duo’s next chapter with a note to fans on Instagram on Tuesday (March 31).

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney addressed their recent social media silence (assuring readers that they “didn’t almost break up again”), their “life-changing” time in the recording studio, details about their soon-to-debut single, and more. The note arrives one day after Dan + Shay posted a 17-second sneak peek of their upcoming single and music video, “Say So,” which will arrive on Thursday (April 2) at 11 p.m. CT.

“As you know, we’ve been quiet for a while, and we just wanted to start by saying thank you so much for being patient with us. No, we didn’t almost break up again,” they wrote with a laugh. “In fact, our friendship is stronger than ever, we have gotten to spend more time in the studio together than we have since we made the Where It All Began album in 2013, and that has been so life-changing.

“Even though we’ve missed seeing everyone on the road (that changes soon — stay tuned), and keeping up with you on socials, we’ve had what we feel is the most inspired burst of creativity in our entire career, and we wanted to capture every bit of it,” the post continued. “Sounds cliche for an artist to say, but these songs really are more personal and honest than anything we have ever done before. Because the music means so much to us, we have held it close and obsessed over every detail, but now we are ready to start sharing it with the world. We’re beyond excited to announce that the first single, ‘Say So,’ will be yours this Thursday at 11 p.m. CT.

“This song is a true story about a friend who we lost not long ago, and we hope it offers strength and encouragement to anyone going through a tough time,” Dan + Shay continued. “The subject matter is heavy, it is serious, it is timely, and it is something we feel is important to talk about. We also worked hard to create our most powerful music video yet, and it will be released at the same time. It would mean a whole lot to us if you took a few minutes to check it out.

“So much more to say about ‘Say So’ and the rest of the new music soon, but again, thank you for always being in our corner,” the duo concluded. “We get to do something we love because of you, and we’ll forever be grateful. This is officially the start of the next chapter, and we truly believe it will be the best. Say So. Thursday. 11 p.m. CT. Here we go. Much love, Dan + Shay.”
