Heat safety

As you've probably heard, we are under a heat advisory. How can we stay safe during the heat? These tips are from the American Red Cross.

Power outages are common during heat waves so be sure to have a plan if the power goes out.

If you don't have air conditioning, have a list of places you can go for relief during the hottest part of the day. Some examples are Starbucks, the library or the mall.

Never leave kids or pets alone in the car. And check on your kids and animals frequently to make sure they are not suffering from the heat and make sure that they have plenty of water.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you don't feel thirsty. And not to bum you out but you should avoid caffeine or alcohol.

Eat smaller meals more often instead of two or three big meals.

If you have to work outside, take frequent breaks and use the buddy system.

And check on family, friends and neighbors who don't have air or who live alone.

Stay safe this weekend!
