Lainey Wilson’s fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges, appeared on the latest episode of God’s Country, and hosts Dan and Reid Isbell serenaded him with a rendition of “4x4xU.”

Wilson released the hit single on Whirlwind, her latest studio album that released in 2024. She extended it into a 19-track deluxe edition last year. Hodges, a former NFL quarterback, joined the Isbell bothers on the podcast episode that premiered on Tuesday (March 10). Dan and Reid teased, “stay tuned till the end for a little special edition of the Lainey Wilson SMASH 4x4xu.”

In the final few minutes of God’s Country, the Isbells pointed out that they typically invite artists who appear on the show to cover a “gravorite song.” Instead, they teamed up to sing “4x4xU” for Hodges.

“That’s a wild thing for me,” Wilson said at a press event last year, when asked about expressing her romantic side in her music (including in “4x4xU”). “I didn’t know I had that side there for a while. But it’s an exciting side to discover. I found somebody who is my biggest cheerleader, my best friend, somebody who is in my corner no matter what.

“He makes it real easy to write love songs. I can’t believe I’m saying that,” Wilson said. “He’s a good person.”

“One of our favorite things about country music has always been how intertwined it is with the outdoors,” Dan and Reid Isbell said in a statement when God’s Country launched. They hope to “bring the outdoor enthusiast or country music lover an up close and personal look into the minds of some of the best songwriters and artists of the genre — a place where they can be honest about struggles, relationships, their connection to the outdoors, the music business, family, whatever they feel comfortable talking about. We can’t wait to see where this partnership will lead and who this podcast will reach.”
