Dolly Parton teamed up with Belles, a rising country artist, on a collaboration that continues the story she first told in the 1970s.
Belles will release “Son of Jolene,” featuring Parton, this spring, “marking a pivotal milestone ahead of Belles’ highly anticipated debut album, due in 2026.” A press release issued Wednesday (February 25) states that the upcoming collaboration is “inspired by the timeless narrative that captivated generations.” Belles wrote it “as a clever, character-driven continuation of the classic story, imagining a chance encounter years later with Jolene’s son. Blending vivid storytelling with a modern country edge, the song honors the spirit of the original track while introducing a fresh perspective.”
“I grew up so inspired by Dolly and the worlds she created through her songs,” Belles said in a statement. “Having her lend her voice to this record is beyond anything I could have imagined. It feels like a full-circle moment and a true honor.”
“Son of Jolene,” which quickly resonated with Parton, follows Belles’ 6-track, self-titled EP. Belles has been teasing “Son of Jolene” on Instagram, including hearing Parton’s voice on the track for the first time and finding out she’d meet the beloved country legend. The collaboration with Parton is due to release on April 17.
