Zac Brown Band included a tribute to late legend Bob Weir during one of the group’s latest shows at Sphere Las Vegas. Weir, a founding member of the Grateful Dead, died over the weekend. He was 78.

“Fare thee well Bob. Let your life proceed by its own design. Rest easy 🌹,” Zac Brown Band’s caption on Instagram reads. The band and its frontman, Zac Brown, shared a clip of the group’s performance of “Lance’s Song,” which appeared on their 2012 record, Uncaged. That album also included “Jump Right In,” “Goodbye in Her Eyes,” “Sweet Annie” and more. The massive Sphere screen displayed a photo of Weir and the audience applauded as Zac Brown Band finished performing the song.

“'Cause we don't know/ What we got/ Until it's gone/ Like it or not/ You live on love/ You try to do what's right/ For him there's no more waiting/ Got his silver invitation/ To do a little playing/ For the big band in the sky”

Zac Brown Band kicked off their run of Sphere shows in December 2025, after releasing their newest album, Love & Fear. Brown previously said the Sphere shows are “a dream come true. It’s my masterpiece so far. This show is the story of my life that I have never shared, a journey through my imagination, music and stories that have defined who I am. All of this brought to life in the incredible immersive environment of Sphere. It will be a unique experience where you can really feel every note, every word, right there with us. We can't wait to share it with the fans.” The Grammy-winning band’s final Sphere shows are set for Friday (January 16) and Saturday (January 17).

Weir was born on October 16, 1947 in San Francisco, California. He died on Saturday, January 10. A statement on the late legend's Instagram account announced his passing because of “underlying lung issues”: “It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bobby Weir. He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could. Unfortunately, he succumbed to underlying lung issues.

“His loving family, Natascha, Monet, and Chloe, request privacy during this difficult time and offer their gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and remembrance,” the post concluded later. “May we honor him not only in sorrow, but in how bravely we continue with open hearts, steady steps, and the music leading us home. Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.”
