Dolly Parton is featuring goddaughter Miley Cyrus on a new, all-star rendition of one of her 1970s ballads, and Cyrus’ voice on the song should sound familiar.
Parton, who will celebrate her 80th birthday this month, announced on Tuesday morning (January 13) that she’s releasing a new rendition of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” She originally released the powerful, hopeful song in 1977. The new version will feature Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah and Reba McEntire. Proceeds from the new rendition and music video will benefit pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, per Parton’s announcement.
Cyrus has previously delivered a rendition of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” The Grammy-winning artist performed the song as an emotional Mother’s Day tribute during her musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live on May 8, 2021. In honor of Mother’s Day the following day, Cyrus joined the SNL cast in the cold open to perform “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” for all the moms. Her own mother, Tish Cyrus, also joined her on stage.
The new version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” — by Parton, Cyrus, Wilson, Latifah and McEntire — will make its debut on Friday (January 16).
