Garth Brooks relived his epic show to mark the opening of his long-awaited honky tonk on Lower Broadway in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee, posting a highlight reel of what he described as the first “home game” at Friends In Low Places.
Bar goers stood in a line that wrapped around the corner on the sidewalk as they awaited the performance on Friday (November 24), which also featured Brooks’ superstar wife, Trisha Yearwood. Brooks donned his signature cowboy hat as he took the stage at Friends In Low Places, named in honor of his iconic 90s smash-hit single. Brooks posted the reel on Instagram to celebrate his venue’s arrival to “the Neon Neighborhood,” and pledged that “we’re just getting started.”
The highly-anticipated venue was first confirmed last year, opening at 411 Broadway, the former location of Downtown Sporting Club. Brooks, opening the venue with Nashville-based Strategic Hospitality, joins a growing list of country hitmakers to open a honky tonk on Nashville’s famous Lower Broadway, along with Miranda Lambert, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley, to name a few.
“We feel very lucky to have the chance to be part of Lower Broad, which is arguably THE hottest spot in the country,” Brooks said in a news release last year. “The goal is a classic honky-tonk that welcomes all and encourages love and kindness while playing the greatest music in the world in the home of country music."
Brooks said in a recent interview that his bar will serve as a place for “unity”: “‘Friends in Low Places,’ for me, is a chapter in country music, so I think it needs to be here.”
